Evidence Quality
Evidence for blood sugar reduction after meals is the strongest claim, supported by multiple trials. Weight loss evidence is real but modest in magnitude. Many popular claims (gut health, detox, energy) are largely anecdotal. Overall, useful as a complement to a healthy diet — not a standalone solution.
What Is Apple Cider Vinegar?
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is made through a two-stage fermentation process: apples are first fermented into hard cider (converting sugars to alcohol), then a second fermentation converts the alcohol to acetic acid — the compound responsible for most of ACV's documented biological effects.
Quality ACV also contains the "mother" — a colony of beneficial bacteria, enzymes, and proteins that form during fermentation. While the mother is often marketed extensively, most research on ACV's metabolic effects uses standardized acetic acid, and the mother's independent contribution is not well-established.

Antimicrobial Properties
Well-established in vitro. Acetic acid inhibits E. coli, Staphylococcus, and Candida at relevant concentrations. This does not necessarily translate to clinically meaningful gut effects in oral supplementation — the effects are diluted and the stomach environment is already highly acidic.
